Step 1: Preparing for Admission

Mandatory State and Federal Background Checks

Click Here to see information for Arkansas State Police no charge fingerprinting services.

  • Forms may be obtained from school districts or from the ADE Office of Professional Licensure (501-682-4342).
  • Previous background checks done for non-classified/ non-certified employees, such as substitute teachers, will not be accepted. New background checks are required.
  • Background checks must be done on specific forms for licensed (certified) positions. DO NOT complete forms for non-classified or non-certified district personnel.
  • Background checks must be less than one year old when applying for a teaching license. NTLP teachers apply for a license in late July-early August of the year they enter the program.
  • For NTLP application, a copy of the ASP-122 form and fingerprint card should be included in the admission packet.

The actual form and fingerprint card are mailed directly to the Arkansas State Police (see paragraph at top of back page of ASP-122 form for instructions). The State Police will report the results directly to the Arkansas Department of Education.

A teaching license will not be issued until the applicant has cleared background checks conducted by the Arkansas State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
