Awards, Critical Shortage Areas
(Teaching Reading AND Arkansas History)
NOTE: Both Teaching Reading courses must be completed with a final grade of “C” or higher.
PRIOR TO making full application to the program, applicants seeking an Early Childhood or Middle Childhood license must have successfully completed or be currently enrolled in (with official proof of enrollment submitted: see below):
I. Six (6) credit hours of ADE-approved Teaching Reading courses at an accredited college/university
Fall 07 Methods of Teaching Reading I
Spring 08 Methods of Teaching Reading II OR
Spring 08 Methods of Teaching Reading I (first 8 weeks) AND Methods of Teaching Reading II (second 8 weeks)

Upon making application to the NTLP applicants must send official proof of enrollment (if not already completed) in the required course(s) issued by the college/university documenting:
- Course number(s) and name(s)
- Date course(s) will be completed
- Approximate date an official transcript will be available (must be on or before June 15, 2008)
Official transcripts showing both completed Teaching Reading courses, with a final grade of “C” or higher, must be on file with the NTLP office no later than June 15, 2008 for full admission to the program. Otherwise, the applicant will be withdrawn, the program fee refunded, and the applicant will not be enrolled or allowed to begin instruction.
II. Three (3) credit hours of Arkansas History at an accredited college/university.
Secondary Social Studies (Arkansas History)
PRIOR TO making full application to the program, applicants seeking a Secondary Social Studies license must have successfully completed:
I. Three (3) credit hours of Arkansas History at an accredited college/university.
NOTE: Only the three areas listed above are required to take any additional coursework. The requirement is license specific and not grade level specific. For example:
If you plan to license to teach Art grades P-12, the applicant is not required to take the coursework because that person will license specifically to teach Art only. |
