Awards, Critical Shortage Areas
Second year participants normally continue to attend modules at the same site they attended in the first year of the program. However, if a participant moves to another part of the state it may be possible to change sites for the second year. Participants must notify NTL, in writing (email is acceptable), that they are requesting to change sites indicating why they are requesting the change. This page will be updated as NTL second year module dates become available.

NTLP teachers who successfully completed first year must apply to the second year of the program. NTLP teachers will:
1) Go back to the ONLINE APPLICATION, complete the application, and submit payment for the second year program fee via credit card or electronic check. The application may be completed with payment as early as January 2008, but must be submitted with payment on or before June 15, 2008.
2) Obtain or continue employment as teacher-of-record in one of Arkansas' public school districts or an accredited private school and mail in the following items to the NTLP office no later than June 15, 2008:
- Proof of employment (hire letter) from the hiring school district. This must be on district letterhead, and should include:
- Full name and SSN of the NTL teacher
- Specific subject(s) and grade level being taught by the NTL teacher
- Official signature of the school district official (Principal, Superintendent or official hiring personnel)
A copy of the teaching contract is also acceptable, if it includes all of the above information.

Exception: For those 2nd year NTL teachers who taught as teacher-of-record the first year, but who are continuing to seek employment for the 2nd year, as of June 15, 2008, to remain in the program and eligible to receive the second Provisional license, must:
- Complete the ONLINE APPLICATION with payment of the second year fee, and
- Send in the application for a teaching license Teacher Application with a letter stating that employment is pending.
- Request, by email or phone from the NTL office, a new Employment Eligibility Form for 2008-2009 be mailed to you.
The NTL teacher will attend 2nd year Summer Instructional Modules (at the same site as 1st year, unless other prior arrangements are approved) and must find a teaching position by September 1, 2008 or go on “HOLD” in the program.
3) Attend NTL 2nd year Summer Instructional Modules at assigned site location (same site as 1st year, unless other prior arrangements are approved, see top of page).
4) Receive 2nd NTL Provisional license in the appropriate content area and level (based on assessments passed) issued once the application, program fee and required documentation (see above) are received and 2nd year summer modules are completed.
5) Teach for the 2nd year in the appropriate content area and level.
6) Attend Monthly (Saturday) NTL Instructional Modules at assigned site location.
7) Continue collaboration with assigned mentor for 2nd year.
1) Complete the appropriate 2nd year pedagogy assessment in the first semester of the second year (no later than January 2009 to apply for PIII). Click on the links below to see important information about these exams:

What Happens if PLT or Pedagogy is not Passed?
Upon successful completion of the NTLP and PLT or Pedagogy exam(s), participants receive an Initial Arkansas Teaching License.
2) Completion of the PRAXIS III: Performance-Based Assessment in the second semester of the second year in the program.
If Praxis III is successfully completed, a Standard Arkansas Teaching License is issued.
